Maca, or Lepidium meyenii, originates from a plant located in the Peruvian Andes. It is commonly known as Peruvian ginseng. The taste of the macaroot is somewhat reminiscent of horseradish and parsnip. The powder is 100% pure without additives.

For 2000 years ago, Maca has been an important part of the local diet in Peru and Bolivia. Almost every part of the plant is used. The roots of Maca are boiled into a sweet liquid or porridge, they are fermented into beer, and the leaves are eaten raw. During the period of Spanish colonization, Maca was so valued that it was used as a form of currency.
